How do we make this happen???? I love it!

I have got to pick that up and read it. Franken is so consistently well-informed (actually reads the reports!) when he's on Senate panels, and asks excellent questions, I have no doubt that his book is a great read.

Now playing

The "Obama doesn't love American sufficiently" garbage makes me think of the clip from The Newsroom that's been making the rounds lately. If you love something, you criticize it and try to improve it. If "love" means "constantly holding someone/something up as the absolute greatest, no matter what," then I have

Yep. That pesky "h-word" is total dog-whistle talk for "white-time." I'm pretty sure when she envisions the "city on the hill," everyone in it is white except for a few peasants.

TRUTH!

Yeah, there is all kinds of wtf with that comparison.

*HUGS* Thorough, sourced comments like this just make me want to cry with joy (and maybe just a little bit with frustration over the fact that it's still necessary to point these facts out).

Yeah, wasn't that a brilliant flash of insight, in a world where we're constantly beaten over the head with the message that Things Women Like are boring, annoying, unimportant, and frivolous, and that it is a burden to Men to have to hear about them?

I wonder what it is about the reds? I watched a gendered "red vs. coral" discussion about a (coral) shirt this weekend.

This HAS to be the guy. Except I kind of think I would be slightly less horrified by a book on The DENNIS System because at least Dennis isn't coaching and counseling high school girls, and observing their underage camel toes.

That one struck me too. One man's world is all men's world? How have we not totally debunked this shit yet????

I was about to say something similar. My parents were absolutely rational, reasonable, wonderful people, but the community and church were and are veeeeeeeery conservative and absolutist. Public school and the public library helped me to develop the desire to want something outside that town and setting.

"Godless sodomite embryonic stem cells" made me lose my shit. I laugh every time I think it to myself.

I KNOW RIGHT??? "Oh, a place where I can go to the bathroom, put my Spanx in my purse, and take off my heels for a while, all in total feminine comfort! I must lie down and allow my lower back to realign for a bit." Seriously, give me all of that, but let me have a cocktail that has a real name, and nix the Western

Gaaaaah!!! And I second you on the bug spray and mosquito management. I'm crossing my fingers for a bitter winter that will take down the mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas.

I can't get over "profuse, painless diarrhea." WTF. If I had that, whether or not I knew it was cholera, I would be at the hospital in no time, all like "Help me! I'm dying!"

I think "unwilling, for whatever reason, to cut ties with the male cheater," is at the root of this phenomenon. Women who stay with a cheater want to convince themselves that it's the right decision. One way to do that is to insist that it wasn't really his fault, which makes the "other woman" an obvious scapegoat.

Agree. But I would want it to come with a very well-thought-out artist's statement on the work to make sure that message got across. I might have less of a problem with those images if the point of them wasn't to convey some version of the desired effect of the lingerie.

I think it has to do with a passivity/women-as-things attitude, especially when I think of the mannequin coloring. Mannequins or mannequin-like themes have been done, women as dead bodies has been done. But now the sexiest women are not only incapable of thought or communication, they also lack genitalia? It's too

It's rare for me to be as put off by ad images as I am by these. Ugh. Do Not Want.
