That’s not what I said. I was very, very careful not to say “an illegal”. I don’t label people “an illegal” because a person can’t be “an illegal”. Illegal is not a noun.
Come off your high horse a minute. I’m not talking about the citizens who are unlucky enough to live in those nations. You can’t seriously try to defend Communism as a system of government. You can’t seriously try to defend whatever the fuck it is that the glorious Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is doing…
Yeah, I imagine we would disagree about the correct amount of government regulation ;) lol - but it’s nice that we can talk civilly regardless.
The demand made by writers like Stone is that we need to act NOW and decisively, and she thinks that intentionally screwing with our atmosphere to fix the unintentional screwing we’ve done with the atmosphere is a great idea. The OP in this offshoot of that idea, talking about solar sails and blocking the sun, I…
That sounds way better than what I’ve been doing: just don’t get it done, and if the next day is screwed up, I’ll know it was important :D
Yeah, that too!
I’m not moving goalposts, I’m simply bringing up aspects that were not made in the initial post. If someone told you they could build a flying car and you laid on them a condition that it had to land safely in the event it ran out of fuel, but then later laid on them a condition that it had to land safely in the event…
Not exactly. Without people in Congress over the years to push us away from fossil fuels - look at what past Congresses have done to the auto industry - we’d be stuck. There has to be a balance between the so-called “free market” and government intervention and regulation. It’s only because the ball is already…
You, too! It’s nice to have a real conversation that doesn’t devolve into a pissing match on a Gizmodo site once in a while! lol
Sounds reasonable. Some will scratch their heads at increasing carbs, but you also increased exercise, so there you go.
Quickly filling it with holes - assuming that can be done accurately - would cost billions. Billions for the array itself, billions for the weapons needed to take it down. Just a shit-ton of wasted money. How large would it be? Where would it be positioned? The moon during an eclipse looks like this:
Services already exist to report crimes and (unfortunately) to tip ICE agents about people who may have crossed into the US extralegally.
I see what you mean, and to an extent, I agree. Republicans will always denounce climate change... as long as it benefits them.
with a massive skill and resource level needed to gain control
The Earth will be around for billions of years. Trump has less than three years left.
Not really. We could reduce/eliminate our use of coal and other non-renewables, change all the things that we know are contributing to the problem, and move away from the coasts, because we know that even if we turn things around, the current coastlines are at least pretty fucked.
Yep, that could work.
Do you consider oil drilling or fracking to be geoengineering? You should. And they have unforeseen consequences and massively expensive cleanup/restoration processes literally, not figuratively, all the time.
If right now isn’t the right time to explore any and all mitigation options, then when?
