I wouldn't be too quick to bet on that. Amazon makes money buy selling movies, books, and Prime, not through their hardware. Since they may very well be selling this for a loss, it might be better financially for them to put it out on the marketplace, since then they wouldn't require losing money on a product to sell…

I have one question that I haven't seen answered yet. I know the Fire is Android-based (beautifully covered, I might add), but is it connected to the Android Market, or does it use the side-market that Amazon has?
