I saw that, but I’ve got to say that the single player footage I’ve seen reminds me more of classic Doom.

The thing I will always praise about Superman Returns, in spite of its many many flaws, are its gorgeous cinematography.
I agree with you for the most part. One of my favorite features of Superman as a character is that you can tell virtually any story with him because violence is never his first response. More often than not his first instinct is to offer his hand in friendship.
You seriously seem to get this character in a way that so few people today do.
I miss this kind of design sensibility. Most tech today consists of black rectangles. There’s no style or personality.
My nostalgia’s not blinding me to anything. I’m fully aware that heavy use of CGI would be needed to make the movie work, but I also think that if animatronics were made by a top tier studio it could be something truly special. At the end of the day I want something that looks tangible on screen, as though the…
The closest example I have to what I would like to see is similar to what was done in Where The Wild Things Are. I’m not against CG, I just feel like having animatronics, something tangible on set besides a tennis ball or motion capture suit, could take the image further in terms of having something for actors to play…
I’ll just have to agree to disagree on that. I’m not saying that I would have the entirety of the creatures made as animatronics, but the ratio would be 55/45 in favor of animatronics.
I think the only way this movie would work for me if its done with animatronics (with CGI assistance) and has a Goonies/Stand By Me/ET kind of vibe. Give us a world that feels tangible and that the audience can get lost in. What will make this movie work best is to bring old fashioned Hollywood magic to it.
All you would have to call it is Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Future. Would be amazing.
The problem with the Expendables is that they’re not old school at all. They just use old school action stars. The action style and editing technique is nothing like the marriage of great camera work, stunts performed by real people, or tight editing like we had in the 80s and 90s from masters like John Woo.
I think if Donner had been allowed to finish the movies it would have been truly extraordinary, even better than the two great movies we already have. I think the scene of Lois tricking Clark into revealing his identity is one of the real highlights. The subtle differences add up to something that actually feels like…
Without cracking open my nerdy history book, Superman II is and will forever be Donner’s movie. (Sorry, the Donner Cut of Superman 2 is one of my favorite CBMs ever.) You are absolutely right, though.
Batman V Superman is NOT a “serious” movie. It’s a self-serious movie made by a director who seemingly cares little for it’s characters and is desperate for his film to be seen as the “serious superhero movie”. The problem is that Zack Snyder believes that in order for his film to be serious it must also be grim and…
I loved Lionhead during its heyday. I think it’s a real shame what’s happened to both Lionhead and Molyneux. Even though their tendency was to over-promise and under-deliver I always felt like their failures (if you want to call them that) were more interesting than a lot of successes.
Maybe my opinion is an unpopular one, but I prefer a version of the Punisher that despises what he does but has nothing else he feels he can do. The Punisher knows that the Frank Castle from ten/fifteen (however long he’s been the Punisher at this point) years ago would kick the crap out of him if he knew what he was…
I think it’s because Grampa’s not drawing the costume as skin-tight, but like actual cloth.
For me it’s the collar that really, REALLY ruins the New52 suit. It’s just so militaristic and formal and out of character for Supes. Throw out the excessive linework on the rest of the suit and you have something that’s at least decent.
I love that Superman design. If you have to get rid of the trunks do it this way.
For me I was in the “never have, never will” boat due to family history until my wife and a friend I trusted decided to let me have a “sampling party.” I kept an open mind, tried a few different things and still came out just thinking it wasn’t for me. Alcohol, imo, ruins a perfectly good margarita.
