Does Gizmo5 still start charging after 3 minutes of talking? If so, that's still not really "free", because there's not a whole lot you can say with 3 minutes, especially if you have to go through automated voice systems.

I don't know why anyone can be unhappy with ios4. I put it on my 3G last night and it seems faster (snappier) than I can ever remember it. It even made me think twice about getting an iPhone 4.
