Catastrophizing is about narrating the victim’s feelings about the assault, not about narrating the violator’s actions. If Ariana is not upset about what happened, then we don’t have a right to tell her she should be. But her feelings don’t alter the bishop’s intent.

Another man speaking for her? Well, of course everything’s fine, then! *resumes grooming pack of attack weasels*

The groping was absolutely intentional!! COME ON!

I didn’t report my rape because it would have ruined my family. I was raped by my uncle @14 in the upstairs bathroom while the entire family was out in the yard having a bbq. If I had mentioned it to anyone, my father would have killed my uncle, gone to prison, and my family would be over. So I didn’t say anything. I

I’m just realizing it’s LaBeouf, and not Boeuf, which always drove me batty, because Boeuf is masculine in French, le boeuf. Beouf, as far as I can tell from my Oxford dictionary doesn’t mean anything at all.

So based upon some hasty internet research, this woman’s actual real name is Mia Goth and she seems way too good for Shia Lebœuf. Ditto FKA Twigs.

Timothee Chalamet’s hair is fine by me but that little struggle mustache he’s got going on is not. I know he’s legally an adult but his attempt at facial hair actually makes him look younger to me, idk.

Shia LeBoeuf would be... just... a lot. Can you imagine even sharing a bathroom with that guy, let alone your life?

Reminder: He is not irreplaceable.

Awww poor babies won’t be able to write their misogynistic drivel anymore, whatever will they do :( :( :(

The NYRB often publishes essays and articles that aren’t book reviews. It’s (generally...) an outstanding publication.

Okay. You didn’t bother reading the rest of my reply. Fine. But maybe stop talking about intellectual debate, then, since you’re clearly not interested.
(Oh, and several of the people Ghomeshi supervised at his job talked about him bullying them and humping them at the office.)

How about liberal values such as worker’s rights? Victim’s safety?

Yeah. This isn’t about publishing unpopular ideas. It’s about neglecting his duty to hold the stories he publishes to a high artistic and journalistic standard. He didn’t even bother to research the many charges against Ghomeshi, apparently, before letting this disingenuous and badly-written piece go to print. Buruma

In an interview with the Dutch magazine Vrij Nederland, Buruma said he felt forced to resign as a “capitulation to social media.” “I have now myself been convicted on Twitter, without any due process,” he added.

This guy is a major drama king. No, this wasn’t about being “convicted on Twitter” or lack of “due process” whatever that means. (Ian’s whine reminds me of that fake courtroom dating MTV show that Jenny McCarthy hosted about being a bad date or something.)

Editors don’t exist in a vacuum. I don’t see how insulting your readership helps maintain said readership. Ditto for the writers who signed that statement. “You’re supposed to buy our publication but not have an opinion about it!”

Mkay.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! You can’t be forced to resign by Twitter crowds, either you deal with being told you suck or you quit your job to get away from the yelling. Take some freaking responsibility for once!

“Buruma said he felt forced to resign as a ‘capitulation to social media.” “I have now myself been convicted on Twitter, without any due process,’ he added.”

She shouldn’t have to resort to the following, but if I was in her shoes, I would hire about 20 to 25 photographers. Pay them really well. I mean, double of what is the market rate for a photographer. And have them follow (ok, hound actually) my stalker(s).
