I sincerely found myself confused by what his expression was meant to convey at several points in Schitt’s Creek. It seemed like the same squinty face was supposed to be taken six different ways. The only other thing I’ve seen him in is Happiest Season, which I liked him in, but didn’t seem like a stretch. As others

I like Dan Levy and I like Schitt’s Creek, but he really cannot be described as having “range.” Even on Schitt’s Creek, playing a part he wrote for himself, his character’s emotional state was often totally inscrutable (when it wasn’t supposed to be).

Linguists seem to bless everything anyone says with “language is constantly changing.” There can still be some standards of what is proper. A headline in today’s Wall Street Journal reads “Security Beefed Up For Biden Ceremony.” Did they get a quote from the Undersecretary of Beefing? How much beefing can we expect?

“I grew up with these characters” and head of original content” are the “Dental Plan!”/”Lisa needs braces” of the HBO Max executive brain.

Was this one renegotiated, or is it the final word?

I’m sure the deal Chappelle signed with Comedy Central is very beneficial to CC. But when it was signed, neither Chappelle nor Comedy Central new it would be a monster hit people wanted to stream a decade later. For every one hit like “Chappelle” there are two dozen turkeys. I heard her do a long podcast interview and she really came across as genuine, enthusiastic about acting and navigating her career trying to be in good stuff and working with good people. And it’s evident that she is a celebrated beauty who made it through her 20's and 30's without participating in celebrity culture.

Co-op is such a masterpiece. I wish it got more attention than an episode of an IFC show can get. It deserves the Schitt’s Creek hidden gem treatment.

“Still.” Amazing that the “it’s 2020" argument has failed to persuade someone to change all of their opinions.

they won’t ever understand what living in a world biased against their nostalgia is like”

I don’t care about this book. I just don’t see why it’s a “problem” for a book to focus “entirely on the favorite media of cishet white men.” And if it’s a problem for this book, isn’t it a problem for similar books as well? So if the “problem” were fixed it wouldn’t be just “one less book.

I don’t read this crap. I just don’t see why it’s a “problem.”

“But, books that want to accomplish ‘world-building’ need to be a little more expansive, by definition.”

The core problem—that the novel’s vision of geekdom focuses entirely on the favorite media of cishet white men—is more difficult to address.”

It’s absolutely horrifying to hear the Queen Mother make what amounts to a eugenics-based argument for shoring up the monarchy.”

I’d love to hear of a counterexample: When has a country had their territory taken and then just kind of shrugged it off? Russia stole Crimea, a Russian-speaking peninsula, from Ukraine in 2014, and Ukraine is pressing the issue in the United Nations TODAY: https://menafn.com/1101151303/Kuleba-hopes-UN-General-Assembly

I feel like the “space scenes” are pretty integral to Apollo 13, but that’s just my opinion.

All of the zero gravity scenes were filmed in zero gravity, on NASA’s parabolic arc training plane. No one else has done that. You can’t say someone else could have done it better when no one had done it before.
