You're not following. Ward in the comics acts like Harold on the show. There is no counterpart in the comics to Ward on the show.

Maybe they just feel free to vary the levels of animation from character to character, as well as show to show. I love Lapis so much, in all of her episodes! And Pearl in most of hers (so bossy sometimes, though her putdown to Holly Blue Agate was classic).
