one of the best things about Nintendo is that they don’t push the capabilities of their hardware to it’s absolute limit and as a result they can do cool stuff like four player split screen multiplayer.
I have to say the Wii U has been my favorite console this generation. Its been a long time since i could get a group of people to regularly play mario kart and smash and ever since the wii u versions came out almost every weekend some people come over and we just play for hours. I dont get that with my PC or PS4 and…
It’s OK! You’re not the only one who didn’t follow, which is on me. I actually just added a bit more context to the article to ensure everyone gets the full story here.
It’s one of the best places to have some great and satisfying political conversations, too.
Thanks for the explanation! Sorry for the snark in my initial post :)
The controversy is that clearly the developers at Respawn don’t want to publicly trash their colleagues at Infinity Ward (the devs of Infinite Warfare), but EA is doing it on their behalf. You may remember, BTW, that Respawn was formed from a large contingent of people departing Infinity Ward, so there’s no doubt that…
Wait, so the “controversy” is that they promoted their game by referencing a negative review of a competing game?
Weird, twitter has always been known as a place of kindness and thoughtful insight.
It was “worse” because most countries had no idea how technology had changed warfare, and they had not bothered to keep up with advanced military thinking. The French went to war in bright red, white, and blue clothing. With cloth helmets. The British didn’t have metal helmets until at least 1915. The inevitable…
To more directly answer the question, it’s because of the disparity between the tactical and technological aspects of the war. WW1 was largely fought as is if were a 19th century European battle with armies marching shoulder-to-shoulder across an open field. Now, however, they were marching across an open field…
yes/no:
WW1 was a completely self-serving conflict for major powers that didn’t resolve any major conflicts and concluded with a treaty that crippled Germany and helped give rise to the Nazi Party.
Oh, good, more “Freedom of speech means freedom from criticism” nonsense.
The point is not that “they are not talking about real WW I” (go-go middle school syntax). The point is that one of the most horrific periods in human history is being used as a springboard for mockery.
This would not be functionally dissimilar from making a “Humpty Dumpty” joke about the WTC—the only reason you’re…
WW1 had French, Canadian, English, and German troops fight for over 3 years in mud and human feces for patches of land that most historians agree with tactically worthless. It was the first War that saw chemical weapons used on a mass scale, the only defense many soldiers had was to urinate on their own handkerchiefs…
I wouldn’t say that WWII is treated like it was fun, but the culture surrounding the Second World War is much different than the First. WWI was a disasterous dominoe effect and was much greater in scale and destructiveness than anything that had come before it. It was impersonal, nationalistic, mechanical, and…
Show me another war that killed a million+ people in a single battle.
100 years relatively isn’t that far ago
WW2 was terrible. But it was a war that was fought mostly akin to modern and historical practices. People fought and died. Aside from the reasons, it pretty much played out like any other major war (excluding WW1) throughout history.
