Again, some of the nostalgia, especially on Daystrom, was oddly TOS-specific (the Genesis Device, a Tribble, and Kirk are all obviously way more of the prior era), which is strange.
I don’t think Picard has nano-probes in him. I believe he was fully desimmilated unlike Seven.
OK, I was seriously nervous about Brent Spiner coming back as Lore (as the trailer hinted), but I like what they did here. I also like that they haven’t just ignored Picard’s biological death in season 1. A lot of people (myself included) assumed at the time that his death would be handwaived, but it looks like it…
The Star Fleet Fleet Museum is the fictional Museum that I now want to visit the most. Imagine being able to tour the Defiant, Voyager, the Enterprise-A, the Bounty, a classic Connie class USS New Jersey. It would be a hell of day out. I want a VR game experience where you get to walk around the Fleet Museum with a…
It’s not contradictory -- she’s saying that nobody OUTSIDE the production needs to know the details, which is absolutely valid. She’s also saying that the people INSIDE the production finally listened to the problems, which is also valid.
You can’t believe changelings evolved to need to be in a liquid form every so often, but you can believe humans have evolved to require spending 1/3 of our lifespan unsconscious while asleep?
Yes, but... we’ve seen, repeatedly, exactly why he’s a Captain. He hates things that aren’t Just So(tm), and does things incredibly by the book — but that also includes placing Starfleet, Starfleet personnel, and especially his crew above all else. So he wants to turn over Jack Crusher and is actively fighting Picard…
This show is very meta - acknowledging “that weird shit with the borg,” explaining why the holodeck is still running when nothing else is, there was another one last week but I don’t recall what it was. A little writing, a sentence or two, explaining away seeming inconsistencies or plot holes, goes a long way to…
Sisko was never quite so much the grump.
I thought the reveal of how Jack and Picard’s previous encounter on Earth lead to Jack not wanting to connect with him was very well done. It was very believable how Picard could say something incredibly hurtful without even knowing he did it.
I’ve enjoyed Shaw’s character up to this episode, but this episode made me love him. Just perfect. More Shaw please.
“At a certain point, asshole was substituted for charm.”
I live within walking distance of several Mission Impossible 2 filming locations. I love many John Woo films (The Killer, Hardboiled, Face/Off). We had a great party back in 1994 at the island the finale would be filmed at. Which is why it pains me to say MI2 was easily the worst of the bunch. MI3 is so forgettable…
There’s also the point that once he had it, Montalban totally killed in the role.
Beyond was pretty good, but they misstepped big time by burying Idris Elba under 50 pounds of prosthetics. Dumb Khan reveal or not, Into Darkness made a ton of money because Cumberbatch did a great “villain Sherlock” performance that the trailers could utilize.
There’s so much awful in that film. The two worst that stand out to me is the Enterprise falling out of orbit from the Moon to crash into the Earth because the engines turn off in the space of about four minutes, and taking one of the most iconic and moving scenes in all of Trek (Spock’s death), and doing a role-revers…
Wrath of Khan was probably my defining moment for Star Trek, this hitting those vibes so hard and so well is really nice.
I have a serious personal grudge against Generations because of how dirty they did Kirk. But yeah, Insurrection is maybe the worst example of “this should’ve been an episode.” I know people will say TMP, especially given that it’s based on what was originally going to be an episode of Phase II, but for all its flaws…
What is it about Hollywood these days, with it’s long production times? Back in the eighties, between 79 and 91, every two years (give or take), they managed to put out six movies. In the modern era? Not nearly that level of output (or frankly, quality).
