Another note: I think it’s good that each show has it’s own vibe.  Not every thing needs to be for everybody, and if you can find a Trek offering that works for you, but others just are not working in your opinion, that’s ok.  IDIC.

Some impressive settings this episode. From floating hexagonal (polygonal?) structures on Ni’Var to vast non-moons filled with Alien-style giant eggs. I definitely want a galactic drink or two in Discovery’s space bar.

I really like what they’re doing with Saru. We don’t typically see No. 1's really acting in the role of XO in Star Trek beyond ‘Take over when the captain isn’t there’ or the occasional sounding board. And yet so far in Discovery we get Saru operating as that sounding board, offering real possibilities and guidance,…

I know the knee-jerk reaction is “fuck Disney”, but I’m reading this a different way. Imagine the juvenile content (and corporate nightmare) of a Disney character saying something awful about gay people. Imagine someone making a clip of Moana talking about how much she “hates the queers”, and that clip going viral.

Yet one more reason why I cannot stand Shalene Woodley. Ugh.

Recent, decades-long trends are to deregulate and trust corporations to police themselves and “do the right thing” because they’re generally run by trustworthy, upstanding people, while the “government” is an evil entity.
