Nah. Coaches teach players to tackle while looking at their target, which is a technique aimed at preventing contact via use of the crown on the helmet.

You can’t make forcible contact with the crown of your helmet more than 3 yards from the line of scrimmage, or within the tackle box. Pretty much any tackle using the crown of the helmet is going to get flagged unless it’s incidental, which this hit clearly was not.

I was taught from Pop Warner through high school to never use the top of the helmet. Always look at the guy you are going to tackle, which will keep your head up and prevent crown use. These guys are all taught the same technique, this was just a bad hit by someone taking out their anger and deserves a suspension.

Anytime you use the crown of your helmet it isn’t a clean hit. Didn’t deserve ejection, does deserve a full game suspension.
