I’m not sure why you think not having to own a car makes it ok for the rent to be expensive?  1400 bucks for a 1 bedroom apartment on the face of the sun seems a bit much.  No car should not mean higher rent.  It should be lower rent since they aren’t wasting space on a parking lot, and can put in more rental units.

I was in the Center of Australia in late December (equivalent to late June in the Northern Hemisphere)—when the temp reached 114, the hottest I’ve ever felt. But I was 29, and the heat was dry. The worst of the heat this summer in Boston has been worse, and I’m just so glad I’m not in Arizona (although Flagstaff would

My next-door neighbor is a violent alcoholic. I wish he was dead.

I used to “depend” on cars, and couldn’t imagine a life without mine. As much as I love cars, time has shown me car-dependence is just unsustainable. And it really makes life harder, not easier.

So... as you get older this changes. Especially if you buy a house or some other form of “I’m going to live here for a long-ass time.”

Between this, and the mafia hitman who got caught because of his youtube channel, there’s just something irredeemable funny about our current timeline.

Blaming it on the cold seems like a pretty shitty excuse and if thats how he really felt, he was negligent in flying anyways. Many people were so close to dying.

Blame the EPA for that one. The fuel economy standards encourage manufacturers to make larger and larger vehicles so that they can hit lower and lower fuel economy targets.

We have a couple streets in our neighbourhood here in Edmonton with those swervy traffic calming designs. I haven’t yet had the pleasure of watching the snow plows try to navigate them, but I’m sure it’s interesting.

This isn’t going to change things for pedestrian deaths, but…

We had a little laugh last week… a friend visited from the southern US, driving all the way up here to Ontario. Their drive was comfy, since they own one of the gigantic three row Suburban clones. Once they got here, they were greeted with a town employing many traffic calming measures, one of which was bollards to

Agreed. They brought a Malibu to a Unimog fight.

To be fair to the Malibu it appears that it operated as it was designed to. Don’t knock the appliance for user error.

Nothing will happen. At best the DA may drop charges on the driver.

In the area around one of the bigger geysers in Iceland, there’s a sign to the effect of “this will burn you, badly, and the nearest hospital is an hour away.” Seemed like suitably severe messaging for a country that just doesn’t need their health care system burdened with idiocy.

This makes me think of my trip to Yellowstone, walking along the boardwalk that takes you safely through the sulfur flats. I couldn’t believe how many shoe-shaped holes there were in the delicate mineral crust that covers the boiling death liquid underneath. They even have signs telling people that stepping off the

Fire this cop and charge him with assault with a deadly weapon and then false arrest.

Go figure that the Equinox and whatever generation Malibu is in the OP are the most common cars in Ohio.

Pay nine bucks a day, and you can do whatever the hell you want with a rental car.’
