This is maybe not such a big deal in developed countries but I don't think it's fair to describe circumcision as a purely cosmetic procedure…

The way I see it, there are some health concerns that legitimately suggest removing the foreskin at a young age. The others all relate to STI transmission, so I think that unless there's a pressing medical need the kid should have the choice when he becomes sexually active.
