true enough. Mine's been fine mechanically as well, but the electronics suck. lumbar adjustment is out, cruise rarely works (that bothers me worse than not working at all) power door locks are broken, camshaft position sensor went out, sunroof doesn't open properly. But the check engine light, as already stated, is

I was going to say, "never seen the check engine light"? what a load of crap. I love my b5 a4, but i joke with my friends that a 90's VAG car that doesn't have it's check engine light on is broken. I just have the codes pulled off my car every month at autozone, if it's just an evap code (or 3 or 4), I don't worry.

I don't know if you include audi in this because they are VAG cars or not, but just going to say while I love my b5 a4, and it hasn't ever stranded me, by most people's understanding of reliable mine isn't. the car runs great, but no abs, no cruise control (most of the time) no lumbar adjustment on passenger seat,

TRUTH! when even my b5 a4 got its oil pan destroyed by a dip between the road and a parking lot (it was dark, and a car was coming so I had to go for it) it just becomes ridiculous. Neither my a4, nor my merkur are particularly low, but if I don't angle the cars on the way into parking lots, they get freaking scraped

Thats the nice thing about audi's, all the a4/s4's look the same, except to those of us who really care. I'm biased however, I drive a b5 a4 with the 2.8 v6. I dd'ed a merkur xr4ti for about 2 years, and it was entertaining to have the right people walk up and talk to me, people who had owned them years before, had

Sorry for replying so much after this was posted, but I simply must agree with voting CP. I own a merkur, and It's in much worse condition than this (I hit a deer a year ago), but if I was going to buy another merkur (and I will at some point) It would be in far better shape.

But 400 hp is BS. It's not that difficult to get a merkur there, but there's no way that example is putting out that much.

I had to push NP. I have a merkur, and while his 3700 price is certainly high, this car is in far better condition than mine.

Agreed, I try to explain to other people the benefits of the xr, but even among the car community people just look at me weird. Of course the fact that I'm 18, and own a 254000 mile turbo four banger labels me as crazy by the majority of people. The fact that all of the maintenance is done by me, and the fact that I

Agreed. B5 audis seem to sell far above kbb. I got my b5 a4 with the 2.8v6 for 4500, kbb on that car in excellent condition? 3500 at the time. Part of that is the cult following of audis here in Colorado, cars like this are always over kbb, and that's okay. It's still good to look up what they value the car at though.

Love thunderbirds, love turbos, love blacked out cars, so NP all the day long.

The price seems ridiculous, but fastest production wagon in the world, who could say no, definitely NP for me.

Yeah, a lot of VAG stuff is really good, even used. But you need to be careful, and only get one if you know a little about them, and are know about cars, like the readers on this site. My b5 a4 2.8 v6 has been a wonderful car, and I would love to have a b5 s4, but you have to either know what you're doing, or be

Not to mention they could run 7.5 second 0-60 which you can't deny was good for the time in the states. It would also pull 140, which again, for an 80's 4 banger was pretty hard to match. The visceral experience of driving a merkur is just great, it admittedly has 0 torque at low rpm, but then the boost gauge rapidly

I love my merkur xr4ti! I still think they were seriously under-rated, especially considering what they were capable of with some mods, how many other cars of the era could run 25psi with no internal engine work? Granted, they have flaws, rough idle being one, and the absolutely awful coolant design being another, but

Sierra cosworth rs500? How about the modding potential of the svo mustang, or my personal favorite (as i'm biased my owning one), merkur xr4ti?

I wasn't interested, then I saw SHO. Fast wagons are just great, even when not that fast by modern standards,

I love these cars, and hope to rebuild/mod one someday, but you can find running and driving examples for quite a bit less, with just exterior/interior wear. So for that reason... cp

I know thats absolutely ridiculous, but I love it!

You sir, have my thanks, for saying exactly what I was going to.
