And my point is that everyone I speak to from Maine thinks the guy is an embarrassment to their state. If you live in Maine, you would be the first person I have met to defend him.

The laws are as weak as possible because the NRA lobbies to make sure that the laws have no teeth. So yes, THOSE laws are useless (example: the IL firearms ID the shooter had), because they are designed to be useless (no fingerprinting requirement for the ID before he bought the gun, no process to remove the weapon…
