Counterpoint: the older I get, the less of a shit I give what adults do that only affects them. Only when I got to the part about her younger kids being taken from her did I feel any give-a-shit.

This is truly delightful. I love the amount of effort she put into everything (the coffee mug, for example).

That said, props to the MTA for putting up that campaign. Seeing Broadway-Lafayette covered in ads talking openly about periods was delightful.

I don’t get it. And Google just wants to know if I meant “squirrel fan.”

I have a friend who is very involved in menstrual activism (getting free hygiene products in schools, no tax on tampons, etc), and Miki is apparently awful. I believe it.

My friends and I say “Squuuuuuuuurrrrul” instead of “guuuuurl” to each other all the time and it’s the best.

When you sit in a court of law day in and day out, it’s easy to forget that your litigants are human beings with lives outside of the justice system. Good on Judge Wolf for not forgetting and for not being afraid to sometimes let common sense prevail over the black letter law. She is a credit to the bar.

Heather Havrilesky is THE BEST

I’m biased, being a Gen-Xer, but I’m really happy she’s having this career resurgence. She brings something unique to the table.

I wish these morons would just be honest and say that “religious freedom” to them means free reign for Christainity and restriction/suppression for any other religion or belief system. Not saying that other people don’t cheat the system but the FLDS have turned welfare fraud into an art form. Yet somehow when some people use the term ‘welfare queen’ you just know the

And a woman director! Can’t overlook that. Not nearly enough films with women directing them, and this is one of the best (and is probably Jane Campion’s best).

A young Cliff Curtis also has a small role. That was back before Hollywood started playing Ethnicity Bingo with him.

You’re quite right about Sam Neill’s character. Although at first George (can’t remember Harvey Keitel’s character’s name) would probably seem like the “brute” to a Scottish widow because he appears to be part Maori in heritage (racist colonists) and he’s not as high in station as Sam Neill.

Meh, I have the DVD.

Sam Neil was the brute! (See the gif in the header.) I don’t think I have watched this since I watched it roughly one hundred times for a paper I wrote in a feminist film class forever ago. I think I will watch it. Thanks, Bobby! I rarely check Prime anymore because they really suck compared to Netflix.
