Gibbs Quadskis, as already mentioned. What wasn’t mentioned, however, is the amazing Top Gear film on them.

I would if BMW would hurry up and gather the parts. And I did the programming myself with a $30 Chinese scan tool knockoff that actually works very well. Best investment I’ve yet made for my car, TBH.
In my e39, I’ve actually disabled the airbag through the computer. You might be able to do the same.
As am I. My sport steering wheel in my e39 was one of the last models to be recalled. I’ve actually gone into the computer programming and disabled the driver’s side airbag. I’ll take my chances
Sorry to hear that. We’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences with our Genesis and the dealer. We purchased it with 37k miles and a Hyundai CPO warranty, and at 45k the timing cover gasket started spewing oil on the garage floor. Called the dealer, they ordered parts and paid for the rental for a full day while the…
Couldn’t agree more. Before the introduction of the Genesis, I saw Hyundai as the purveyor of cheap appliances. Worse rep than Toyota, because they have no history of anything even remotely sporting.
Or you can pick up a 5 year old Genesis V8 with Nav and all the options for under $20k. They’re great luxury cruisers; a modern Lincoln, but the ride’s a bit busy.
At first I went, “yeah, it really could be. Their current Genesis is really nice.” Then I went (-‸ლ)
They’d be very slow, true. Bigger curbs would make for a more interesting race; otherwise they’d just straight-line those sections. Maybe they would use a shorter course, like they do at Infineon. My biggest concern would be runoff area at the end of the backstretch.
Also, the DIYer can do it on their e39 (ask me how I know) for about $40 + 4 hours of labor. Caveat emptor...
The oil filter housing gasket is still a problem?! That was an issue on the e39 I6 (M52tu, M54) engines, too. The more things change...
Oooh, ask if you can do the write-up! Can’t wait.
How many miles have you put on the car in the past 3 years? That seems like rather excessive brake wear. I’ve put 20k miles on a set of cheap pads and rotors for my e39, and even with the thrashing I give them on a weekly basis through the SoCal canyons, they have yet to even wear halfway. And I have a heavy traffic,…
I have my e39’s seat adjusted so that I never move the steering wheel. Just feels better to me that way. The little leather cover on the top, though, does fail and come loose. (-‸ლ) A little filing and some Elmer’s glue has held for a year, though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Love this guy. Great stuff.
Finale. And the 2011 Chase finish there was very interesting, down to the last lap. But it’s still a pretty boring track, I agree. I’d love to see a Nascar race (especially the Finale) at COTA, but I doubt they would allow it, with the extremely high speeds in some sections.
As a BMW owner, it pains me to no end to see that stuff. I drive a BMW because I love the way they feel, the way they drive, and I appreciate the very German engineering. Come over to the BimmerFest e39 threads, or join the BMW CCA (totally worth it, just for the magazine, IMO, though they do tend to praise BMW for…
“had them?/” Did you end up selling her? I’m in the midst of a love affair with my 03 530i. Though I need to polish the headlight lenses.
A 2001 BMW e39 had them before that.
