@CaffeineCarlton: Usually the boxes do have component output, although he would be losing HD. I think mythtv supports IR blasters although I've tried using mythtv with a box and the buffer delay makes controlling the box with a remote impossible as the onscreen feedback is very delayed.

@FishFearMe: No internet on both partitions or just one? Perhaps you can try booting from a liveCD and see if you can get internet that way.

I just switched from using the Permatab trick to using Prism to have dedicated gmail and calendar windows. I put them in full screen on separate dedicated spaces in OS X.
