What is wrong with someone who is not schooled in it, talking about design? Design is meant to stir emotion, and is not the exclusive right off anyone group as a result of that.

Nobody, is trying to eliminate Brock and mortar stores, including Musk. He is removing the middleman dealership model, in whichever a middleman is imposed upon everyone who buys a car, so that their is an extra level expense added to the whole process.

I’m not prone to excessive, flourishes on vehicle interiors, but the Volvo shifters somehow fit a Volvo perfectly. Here though, nosomuch.

Only way too much if nobody is willing to pay for it. Personally, I would pay it in a minute if I was in the market a fun project car. It’s not clapped out, it needs some attention, but it is in very serviceable, and readily repairable condition (assuming the backbone frame hasn’t given up the ghost).

The original Z3 was a slightly different case, it was made as a direct Miata competitor. It was the success of the Miata that rebooted the whole small roadster trend in the early 90's. But you are spot on for later incarnations, they grew in size and luxury while the Miata stayed largely the same.
