Exactly. Nintendo IS supporting Smash. They just don’t have the time to pander to a tiny niche group that looks down their nose at the current version while demanding special treatment for refusing to move past a 15 year old game that they need broken controllers to even play competitively. That’s some next-level…
And you seriously think the Legal department, nevermind the shareholders, are actually going to be okay with all this?
Pokémon Go is developed and runned by Niantic Inc. Nintendo funded and licensed the game, but has next to nothing to do with the actual development and upkeep of it.
Its not more than that. Its Money. It is always money.
And how much is the fan (or third parties) willing to pay Nintendo for permission to make the parts? You expect Nintendo to give that for free? You have to remember they would still have to manufacture the machines that will be manufacturing the parts.
The answer for the third parties is exactly the same.
Fair enough. He wants Nintendo to provide enough money that everyone else gets paid to enable him to make money.
I feel like this is interview is kinda ambushing Reggie, and I don’t even give a crap about Nintendo products anymore since they nerfed the crap out of Pokemon Go (which was the last Nintendo related item I ever got in the past decade).
However, if I were Nintendo, I’d be glad to turn my back on on Melee. Hell, we all…
I think there are plenty of “casuals” who know about competitive gaming and just don’t give a rats ass.
Personally, I agree with you. Nintendo is under no obligation to cater to any pro scene that pops up around one of their games. Sure, it might be nice if they did, but there is certainly no obligation.
they wont do that. melee is just a smash game. theyve already announced a sequel to melee, it was called brawl, and the sequel to that was smash for wii u. melee isnt its own sub series.
The Melee community really needs to get over themselves. No, Nintendo is not going to create tournaments or support a 15+ year old game they no longer make. No, Nintendo is not going to allocate a portion of their current manufacturing capabilities to create parts for a 15+ year old console. There’s so much work…
Also, a note to Kotaku reader Ojitheunseen, who asked last Friday if we’d ask Nintendo if they’d manufacture more GameCube component cables (or release the schematics of them).
Short answer to your question: Money.
I started a much more critical and fiery response but yes. It comes down to money. He wants to make more money and work less. Welcome to everyone in every job. Hell Kevin Durant did it and look at him now.
I think my eyes rolled out of my skull when I read that same quoted line.
Like, seriously? I love how his entire argument essentially boils down to, “But guys, it would be totally sweet... Come on!”
“This is not just a video game. This is a lifestyle! All right?”
Nintendo isn’t planning to do Virtual Console on the Switch. Reggie confirmed as much when he blatantly lied about Nintendo never saying they planned a virtual console for the Switch.
I would say about the 16 people who still gives a shit about Melee.
Well this is the biggest eye roll of the day.
