Trans didn’t “fail” per se. It made the tinny rattling noise that worn synchro’s make. I could still drive it. It was a relatively new car (less than 1 year, less than 5K Miles) so definitely not a fluid issue. Not shifting right? Ok.

When I was young and stupid, I ruined the synchros in MY car by doing this.

Yes.  It’s a bad habit to get into.  Resting while applying even a slight amount of pressure is bad. I learned this the hard way when I wore out the synchros within the first year of ownership of a 2003 350Z. Luckily for me, the trans was replaced under warranty. Lesson learned.
