I agree, important point about the hybrid Maverick, it’s not AWD like the Santa Cruz is. For some, that may be an important factor. 

DeMuro reviewed one, and got an indicated 17mpg.  That’s a tough sell against Maverick.

22 MPG for this is appalling. 

Why is 300 hp at 22 mpg NEEDED”? I get that it’s more fun, but given the shitty states of both US commuter culture and the climate maybe that’s not the best foot to put forward?

Oftentimes, especially in the German car world, “coded” means “initialized to this specific car.” It’s often the case with high-end German cars that you can’t just get a salvaged computer module from a donor car and expect it to play nicely in your car.
