It is your god-given right- nay, duty- as an American to love John Wayne IN SPITE of his silly politics.

I've got an open mind, so why don't you all get inside?
Exactly! But it's kind of the perfect thing for an MRA to argue. "The idea that women face condescension and infantilization and chauvinism is without merit, and I know you agree, BECAUSE I KNOW YOUR MIND BETTER THAN YOU DO, LITTLE LADY."
There's germs of good ideas in there, at least with regards to custody reform, but that issue would be better served by breaking out into its own movement. Getting tangled up with all the Gamergate-esque nonsense drags the whole enterprise down.
Has "You know I'm right" ever worked on anyone? It's a nice enough attempt to completely cut off debate I suppose, but I've never seen/heard it and said, "Yeah, I DO!" Even when people I agree with say it, my response is usually, "Not based on what you said, I don't."
Any definition of the word "worthy" that excludes Leslie Knope is void.
But do studios reward directors for that?
He was two streets over, fighting the aliens there. The camera didn't focus on him 'cause it was someone else's movie.
"I think he's punished for not having attitudes it would be really unlikely for a man of his era to have"
When he got to "country club", I was like, "Wait, for a gay African American on a cop's salary?"
The future stuff is working surprisingly well. I think it's because most of it is rooted in the characters- it's all the TMZ trash that Tom likes, the trends that Donna follows, or the Nerdcore stuff that Ben adores. The joke isn't *only* "here's some wacky thing from the future", but "It's ridiculous for these…
Plus, I'm not sure that "Leslie always gets what she wants" is all that true. She never "beat" Sweetums. She was recalled. She sold out to Jamm. Ron went through with Morningstar.
Which is another good point! FalCap, Lady Thor, and Evil Iron Man aren't really great examples of movie/comic synergy!
Honestly, most of the monthly titles do just that. They have maybe 2 issues a year devoted to multiverse shenanigans.
I think this "Marvel is trying to shutdown the properties it doesn't own the rights to" thing is pretty overstated. It's still publishing upteen Spidey and X-titles, and has two of its biggest creators running those properties. The only property that seems to really be getting the short end of the stick is FF, and…
It's not really hard to update too many of the historical events in the 616. Look at what Warren Ellis did- same Tony Stark origin, but a desert background instead of a jungle one. FIXED.
I mean, the plot is so propulsive that it keeps me coming back, but it's kinda grating that the only character he really gets is Reed, and even there, he's turning him into Morrison's Batman…
Yes. The number of Marvel events that HAVEN'T promised to "change everything" can probably be counted on one hand.
Listen, my substantive points are clear: (1) I don't think the MCU is convoluted and I don't see any compelling evidence that it's going to *get* convoluted. (2) I don't think "Secret Wars" (while a dubious idea on its own merits) is a clandestine play to the MCU audience. You can respond to those or not. But I'm not…
I don't think the MCU is convoluted, and I don't see how it's going to become convoluted just because some unnamed people think the A2 trailer was bloated.
