The money made off of movies like this and the the continued production of movies like this indicates that I'm very nearly alone in preferring the human, understated, GG/early M&M era Melissa McCarthy.

Apology accepted.

In your opinion. Add that.

The Informant was pretty good.

You seem fun.

Right. And it sometimes depends on the interpretation, the right female performer can sell the "playing hard to get" idea. But man, it's a tough needle to thread.

Jesus, that's right, I think I willed myself to forget that line.

No, but he brought it up…

The comparison to "Baby It's Cold Outside" is apt, because both sides feature that "wearing down her defenses" thing. The problem is, in neither case am I sure it's consensual. And of course, the video for Blurred Lines doesn't help…

This is all true, and on one level, I kinda like CUA as just an adolescent bullshit song. But The Clash really understood the system on a much deeper level.

Exactly. Again, it's annoying when they act like the victims (there's an extent to which they are, but you know what I mean) but I'd rather they become dimly aware that the system is rigged than not.

This is fine. I probably won't buy the album, but it's not like it makes it any harder for me to listen to "Who's Next". If they think they got a song to sing, let 'em try.

Yeah, but that didn't pan out, so they're making the best of what they've got.

I don't really like RATM, but I can't join this guy's "middle class white kids can't/shouldn't be pissed off about social injustice" thing (to the extent that he's making that argument; even he seems to backtrack a lot). I mean, yeah, it's obnoxious when they act like the aggrieved party in the system, but the system

Not only that, but their lyrics, even their political lyrics, are a lot more nuanced than other punk bands, or than The Clash's image. It's not like Dead Kennedys calling Jerry Brown a fascist. "Career Opportunities" may by The Clash's most naive political song, and even it's talking about the civil service and

"Who the fuck protests a highway and mass rapid transit system?"

Also, I think there's a reasonable difference between knowing that he regenerates and seeing it happen right in front of you. I've got no qualms with making that part of the story.

It's possible that most people watching genuinely enjoy the show and don't feel particularly abused or alienated at all.

1) Why not? Yeah, The Doctor would want to save that ship if he knew about it anyway, but putting them on it a) gives you an easy way for him to find out about it and b) was probably easier contractually. If the victims coulda been anyone, might as well make 'em someone you've already got around.

Yeah, we Cardinals fans didn't. Which is fine, except a lot of people acted like we were supposed to. C'mon, Red Sox, sports are a competition, you're not gonna get the whole world to laugh with you.
