And even if it didn't have much lasting impact it was good in the moment.
There are so many things I could say, but won't.
Yeah, a bit too much romantic comedy shenanigans for me to rate 3 over 2.
Yeah, it didn't make any sense even with Michael's bonus that they'd only get the day off if they went to the wedding. To which the obvious response is "Okay, I'll work that day." followed by not showing up.
I would have loved to see that.
Plus Rashida Jones left to do a terrible Fox sitcom. I really wish Karen had stuck around just for the awkwardness of it.
"Turf War" was the only watchable episode in S8 for me. The rest are either amusing, but forgettable (the Florida arc) or just plain awful.
Actually ending S5 with Jim and Pam eloping would have worked for me.
"Fun Run" and "Money" work pretty well, but the other two sandwiched between them are just awful. Kidnapped pizza delivery boys and driving into a lake were two reasons for this.
The first half of season 5 is not great. The Michael-Holly stuff is okay, but it felt a little forced to me. Pam at art school is just a complete dead end that disappears faster than a fart in a hurricane, never to be seen again. The episodes building to Michael quitting to form the Michael Scott Paper company are…
The bloopers from that scene are gold.
As is "Stress Relief" although they get a minor pass because it was the post-Super Bowl episode.
Pam at art school, Jim as manager, the Sabre takeover even the Michael-Holly story was only about half a season. Just terrible long term thinking by the show runners. And don't get me started on Andy and Erin….
I'm willing to put S1 in along with 2 and 3 as great TV with 4 and 5 being uneven, but still good. The self-imposed restriction to keep it fully contained within the office made the extended run almost impossible to sustain.
While I love this episode and the resolution of the Jim/Pam story here, I still find S2 to be superior to S3 mainly due to the drawn out, soap opera-ish way this story was told. I didn't really find Karen compelling enough to make a believable roadblock and both Jim and Pam's inability to just say "hey, we messed up…
Brian the boommike operator was a huge mistake by the writers. They could have just as well used Dwight for that scene after the argument and it would have resonated more with them leaving at the end.
But it was the worst when Jim was there and apparently his presence in Stamford hadn't really made that branch untouchable because they got closed when Josh bailed.
He was also in S2's 'The Secret' when Dwight catches Oscar playing hooky.
Yeah, I found Michael going through with the school presentation knowing he didn't have the money to be just too much to buy. His cluelessness and narcissism works within the confines of the office where he holds power over the employees, but not in the outside world.
