You have to be kidding. The Miami Vice movie was TERRIBLE.

Genuinely honored to see my 2014 high school Head of the Charles fuckup immortalized in an AV Club article lmao

Last of the Mohicans should be a LOT higher.

The AVClub once called Lawrence of Arabia a white savior movie, so at least they’re consistent with misunderstanding movies they obviously have not seen.

Pretty much. Dances with Wolves overflows with contempt for white civilization. It begins with white people massacring each other and concludes with the hero fleeing white soldiers. John Dunbar / Dances with Wolves seeks a freedom that probably no longer exists because of the ever-increasing reach of the whites. The

They’re both in their twenties. They both have some growing up to do.

Maybe I’m a dummy who doesn’t see some subversive comedy genius but I have never gotten the appeal of “I Wish It Was Christmas Today”. There’s so many other classic SNL Christmas sketches that could be on this list instead of that dumb thing. A couple of my faves:

As an Old® and because it contains some of my favorite actors, I submit this:

your forgot my favorite - the alternate ending to “it’s a wonderful life” with dana carvey as george. “mary, mary!”

I watched Saltburn last night. It was....okay. Everyone in it is excellent but overall, it felt like it was trying too hard and I found it very predictable. So, a mild recommendation....you know, if it’s cold outside and there’s nothing better to watch.

Look I’m all for escapism and all but please let’s not pretend you can get from Boston to Sydney in 16 hours. Fastest is 23 hours including one hour stop over at LAX. I know this from painful, repeated experience (and I’m always travelling economy so the length of the journey is deeply noticeable).

The snark of the AV Club’s glory days was always (or almost always) aimed at targets who earned it. Someone making a really good movie and being cool about it wouldn’t have gotten Sean O’Neal’s ire, because O’Neal wasn’t a fucking hack.

I think most people would agree with you. Most of these writers are just regurgitating content from other sites and often what they choose to quote or comment on misrepresents the actual article for the sake of sarcasm that adds nothing of substance.

Am I just old (I’m 44) now? Because I don’t get the needlessly sarcastic tone I see injected into nearly everything I read on AVClub anymore.

Uh, y’all know you gave Beau is Afraid a C+ on this site, right? The review calls it “an insufferable 3-hour slog”

I find it criminal that this list does not include Bill Murray’s 1988 classic (for me anyways) “Scrooged” A twisted, mean-spirited, very late 80's take on “A Christmas Carol”, the movie boasts a great cast, some solid laughs, good effects and a genuinely sweet romance between Murray and Karen Allen.

Remembering the A.V. Club writers we lost to A.I. in 2023.

It’s not fancy, but my wife and I watch the horror comedy Santa’s Slay every year, starring Bill Goldberg as Santa Claus who is also the antichrist. If you’ve ever wanted to see Chris Kattan and Fran Drescher murdered in the opening five minutes of a movie, check it out.

Missing from the list is “Santa’s Slay” starring Goldberg. In this one Santa is the Anti-Christ, who goes on a rampage after being freed from his 1,000 years punishment of delivering toys to kids, all due to him losing a Curling match against an angel.
