There is a point I think though where the public criticism does go over the point of any return. When you do a major tv interview calling your family uncaring prisoners who tolerate racism and complain about them cutting you off financially when you left it’s going to take a VERY long time I think for any…
That’s just crazy talk.
Is the idea “let’s make some Star Trek that actually feels like Star Trek”?
Also, in terms of YA that I enjoy, The Rest of Us Just Live Here is a fantastic portrayal of what life is like as an ancillary character in a Chosen One story who has no aspirations for glory.
Not huge on the books (more of a middle grade librarian than YA) but met Patrick Ness a few times in my indie bookstore days when A Monster Calls was new and he was a delight. Hope this does well.
He’s clearly going to play the Demi-Lich.
“ Philip is a controversial figure for all those offensive remarks—but simply that they became a national fixture through sheer long-term staying power. Now his life is wielded as a rebuke against Harry and Meghan, nevermind his long history of pushing against the way courtiers wanted to do things, pushing for changes…
Persistent rumours of him involved with many different women... where not a single one to this day nor any media outlet has shown a single scrap of evidence? People just liked making up rumours about him because it was salacious and sold papers.
I was among the class of interns who successfully sued Warners for grossly abusing them. (I was at a different studio but also ended up as a paid intern due to the WB interns.) The whole idea of paying it forward with shit-shoveling is huge. Rare were the assistants who didn’t treat interns like indentured servants…
I agree with slow and mundane. I did not like the movie. I found it to be one note and tiresome, except for the HR meeting. Even in a weak year for movies I don’t put it in my top ten. It’s possible that if it had come out before the Me Too movement and the Harvey Weinstein scandal, it would’ve been interesting, but…
Lots of great stuff in this episode. I also was worried Gordo was going to walk out in front of a car. I think putting him back on the moon is straining my suspension of disbelief, though.
It’s a slim volume, not a major novel, more like a novella that got ambitious and ate its Wheaties. But it is packed with wild ideas and cool moments, and the possibilities of the concept are endless. It’s easy to see how you could spin a show out of it.
me too. how i missed this book is beyond me. i’ve been a Zelazny fan since i was a teenager.
It’s funny that there’s a spoiler warning for the article, but there’s already a spoiler in the title. The Youtube video does the courtesy of blanking out the spoiler.
One time, in my first office job out of college, someone came out of a staffing meeting and cheerfully told me what a “bargain” I was - apparently the gap between what I made vs what they could bill for my time was so much wider than for my (largely male) colleagues! I think the wierdest part is that the person who so…
So, why haven’t the Amber books been snapped up by HBO or whoever to turn into a prestige series? It’s got everything— scandal, intrigue, family drama, family nonsense, magic, parallel(-ish) worlds, sword fights, spooky road trips, playing cards you can travel through, and more.
Parents wanted someplace safe indoors their kids could run wild for an hour or two.
I was a Freshman at Emerson College in 1987, and was cast to appear on the first season as a contestant. We taped in NYC over Thanksgiving break. Mine was the 5th episode to tape that day and I could tell the crew, and cast were reward to go home. I was up against two MIT students. They were so boring and dry on…
Five days ago (Aug. 14) was my 24-year sobriety date.
