She’s a woman. If I were still in middle school, my eyes would be dislocated after reading your last paragraph. Since, like Rapinoe, I’m an adult, my eyes stayed right where they are.

oh, i don’t have panic attacks, but sometimes airport security makes me hyperventilate :P I just called to set up my first appointment.

I find things come up unexpectedly, like when I started hyperventilating after going through the body scanner in the airport. I don’t have panic attacks, and I had no idea it was going to be a problem until it was. I think sometimes I’m detached from my feelings. I am finally going to get some therapy. I’d never say

Multi generational households used to be the norm here, and are still the norm in many places. Where I live it’s more common for adults to live with their parents. I was actually kind of jealous of work friends who lived at home because often their parents are semi-retired and make them dinner!

If Brock Turner were a brother of color, it’s unlikely he’d still be in prison. In this case, a mandatory minimum would stop the judge from using his privilege (affluent elite athlete at private university) as mitigating factors in his sentencing.

I think the legal system will only start dealing with sexual assault like other crimes, when there is enough public outcry. Another sentencing judge might look at this situation and think maybe it’s better to give more prison time.

The ones people, smart people, are asking questions about.

Possibly people don’t leave because they know their boyfriend/ husband will kill them if they do, and they will have no support from police or the courts in preventing that from happening.

Let’s close our eyes and imagine the backlash against women if Hillary is president.

Is it possible for you to get out of town? It’s not fair, but it might be safer.

And for them, I hope their state votes out the tea party so they can get the medicaid expansion. I also wish a plague of boils on the judge who let him make bail, or bedbugs or something.

He’ll be too brain damaged to stand trial. I hope his insurance runs out and he dies of bed sores.

The brony thing has been popular with some of our middle schoolers, so I think that has a trickle down effect. We also celebrate Pink Day, which is specifically about not gender-policing, so maybe that’s had an effect.

Sigh.

They’re so awful, but on the plus side the repetitive plots and familiar characters help kids transition from picture books to longer stories.

I was a little surprised the first time a boy signed one out, but none of the kids in the class made any comment, and I guess no one gave him grief, because like your daughter, he got one every week after that. Then other boys started jumping on the rainbow fairy bandwagon. Could be worse. You daughter could be into

I’m trying to think who I would cast as Serena Joy. She should be older, attractive in a Fox news anchor way, and just a little intimidating. I think Amanda Abbington could pull it off, or Uma Thurman, and Reese Witherspoon would make a great church lady.

This idiocy is actually worse around the ages of 4-7, and then kids are able to have a more nuanced view. As a school librarian, many kids this age are only interested in books marketed to their gender (Princess! Superhero!) but by Gr. 2 and 3, no one blinks an eye at a boy signing this:

Wow! I’m getting a sugar rush just reading that!
