Honestly, I’d much prefer it if Ford called this the Falcon Futura-E.

If its not a truck, Ford brings no brand equity to the table. Everything else it offers outside of its truck or the Mustang are meh at best and horrible at worst

But on the other hand, the teenage and 20-something crowd to which the original incarnations of these pony/sport compact car nameplates were marketed are overwhelmingly not buying new cars, so who’s left to market to? The same crowd you pandered to decades ago and the same crowd that’s holding a majority of household

There is one thing that the Mustang has always been: A sporty car within the reach of everybody.

What they should have done is killed the Fiesta and current Taurus, kept the Focus and replaced the Fusion and Taurus with the new Fusion-based Ford Taurus already being sold in China.

The biggest change came in the 35-44 age bracket, which in 2007 accounted for 29 percent of all new car buyers, but in 2017 was only 14 percent, a 15 percent shift.

Another long-term “vision” is that the Mustang goes complete EV in 202x to keep up with the other performance brands that are injecting Plug-in EVs into their line-up (Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche etc).

The fact of the matter is it’s the same exact argument people made when Porsche came out with the Cayenne. Mustang is a brand. You can say it’s just a model, under Ford, but it’s a brand, just as Corvette is a brand, and it is recognized all over the world. Focus, Edge, Taurus, etc. are not brands. But Mustang is. It

Nearly any upper-tier Visa card has CLDI coverage built in - you never need to worry about insurance at the rental counter.

I basically agree with you, except for this part:

Michigan recently saw its first snow of the season and I can’t tell you how many people I saw riding around on their summers or all-seasons, thinking it’s okay.

Gender reveal parties aren’t bad, pointlessly grand gestures are.

It’ll be a good car, but it will not be a substitute for an actual Mustang EV.

If they hadn’t said anything about it being “Mustang-inspired” or “crossover”, and instead had just said “2-door electric hatchback”, I’d bet the majority here would be praising it instead of bashing it.

“Ford could have called this thing whatever the fuck they wanted to.”

It sure makes me conscious about where I’m throwing sparks...

This whole “selling vehicles you love” thing is just hard.

I guess what I’m imagining is a ground effect vehicle that is used over land, rather than over water. it should still drag a single wheel so it can claim to be a unicycle.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but I think we all should remember that car companies are really just marketing firms that happen to make and sell cars.

But EVs aren’t fast. The model S has insane acceleration, but has the same top speed as the 300hp 2003 Mustang Mach 1, and both are 600 some mph shy of mach 1.
