This is not complicated. Anything you do on the subway (and generally in public actually) should remain within your cylinder of personal space; this includes smell, sound, and elbows.

As an architect the “tiny house” trend is infuriating. The media *cough*HGTV*cough* makes Tiny sound like just another style of house. It’s not, it’s a LIFESTYLE, and not one that is particularly compatible with American culture. I can’t believe it took this long for the “trend” to wane.
