I dunno—I think he had an endgame in mind—like J.K. Rowling did—but I agree that the show will affect the last books. Martin has said as much himself, with respect to how Natalia Tena has transformed his thinking on Osha, e.g.

Naked chick sword handle is definitely in the show. When he sneaks into Dany's tent to give her the heads of the other two mercenary captains, the camera focuses on the naked lady so we know it's Daario in disguise in Unsullied armor. And before that, we see him whetting the blade & catch a glimpse of the handle.
