I’m a body tech that works manly on luxury vehicles. The outer has a ton to do with the structural strength of a car. There’s a reason you have to follow specific guidelines when replacing just outer quarters.

Well most transmissions aren't perfect. They do prefer using each gear. Your syncos like going to the next gear jumping gears will cause wear.
And kill your syncos.
This is exactly what I did to my trans.
Lower rpms at higher load doesn’t mean economy will be better. Sometimes you’re better off revving the engine instead of lugging it. Slight inclines and such.
