Loopholes aren’t illegal. If they were corporations wouldn’t be able to get out of paying taxes. No one had to pay him for the mod, hence he wasn’t profiting from the mod. You have an overly idealistic view of the world, one which even a four year old would know is bullshit.
Patreon has a monthly option which is completely unrelated to what is being released. You don’t go to patreon to buy something, it’s a donation to support a creator you like. Donations aren’t the same as making money for doing a specific thing.
