How about ole “Glass Bones” Steve Grogan?

“Shome thingsh in here do not react too well to bulletsh.”

Go back under your bridge, troll.

Flying through TCU at night was bad enough for me. I couldn’t imagine running into hail at that speed! I always assumed hail being flung out of the top was the reason I was taught to give at least a 20-25+NM-wide berth from large cells like that. I simply assumed the cells at least probably showed up red on their

I know it can. I’ve heard plenty of horror stories. All I know is that when there’s at least a lot of red cells(which they being in an A320 or Denver Ctr must have seen) on the WXR, there’s a reasonable assumption that they’re CB’s which then you can assume has at very least moderate to extreme precip and/or heavy

Yeah, for a cell like that(again looking at the plot from FlightAware) he was only about 15 to the south of it. It’s not unheard of that CB’s can huck stones farther. I was unfortunate enough to never have it on board my bird(s) so I always had to rely on ATC, HIWAS/Flight Service updates on pop-up AIRMETS and/or

Gotcha, thanks. I figured they weren’t intentionally trying to fly directly through that garbage. It looked like they tried to deviate quite some distance to the south judging by the track, but I’m sure the plot and the radar pic aren’t aligned too well on FlightAware’s page. Embedded CB’s are scary as hell especially

Thanks, man. Though I think it’ll be a while before we hear anything. Delta Corporate Comms aren’t always great about getting detailed info out to the media. Plus, NTSB and FAA still have to do their prelim incident report.

Nope. I can’t take credit for this mishap. I just figured they had a working WX Radar(of course prior to getting into the situation in the first place) and because of that they should’ve been able to deviate. Granted, I wasn’t there so I don’t know exactly.

Hat’s off to the pilots for diverting and getting the bird back on the ground. I’m actually genuinley curious though, how did they get into that mess in the first place? Was their wx radar on board INOP? Because, the last time I checked, you’re supposed to deviate around hail-producing cells. I could only imagine what

I see your ASTOVL and raise you this. Boeing’s X-32B was definitely weirder. SIDE NOTE: The screenshot of ATF just gave me a near terminal case of nostalgia.

Ahem! Tecmo. Bowl. *Drops Mic*
