Does anyone remember about 15 years ago when savings accounts were over 4%?

I see some commenters giving you crap Kate, but there are Lifehacker readers out there who still find this information pertient!

It depends on your time horizon. Savings account should be for any money you potentially need now (emergency fund) or within a year. 1-3 years you can start looking at CDs or T-bills. 3-7 years maybe expand to safe (municipal?) bonds. 7-10+ years is when you start talking equities/stocks.

I kinda feel like this is where the “Tesla as a tech-company” mindset is going to cause a huge problem. They are so concerned with software updates and the batteries...all the while treating legacy comapanies like Ford, Toyota, etc. like dinosaurs. And they fail to see that these other car companies have 50+ years of

Now it’s just chaos scattered across 8 different trade-show giveaway thumb drives - but to be honest the mental relief from not caring so much about each individual one is worth the few minutes it takes to find the right one from time to

If you don’t need it, put it in an investment account for your kids so they can afford to pay back the tax bill for all of this 50 years from now :-\

He listens or else.

For reference, I’m 35 now. Grew up in a very conservative, Mormon household. I went off to college (engineering major, not anything particularly provocative) and swung hard left. I was reading MICHAEL MOORE BOOKS for crying out loud. It was 2004 and hating George Bush was super cool! Then my senior year of college and

My neighborhood NextDoor site is also in free fall. I’m having to work on who I filter out and mute - because there’s still a lot of good, relevant, local information posted. But a growing percentage is now “LIKE THIS TO SHOW NEXTDOOR THAT US AMERICANS STILL LOVE THE FLAG” crap.

This headline is too long by 3 words

Especially at the start of hurricane season...I’d need to see some kind of history of how hard and often they get hit before I felt safe holing up their for months with sketchy airplane availability to the mainland.

Thanks for the reminder that I still need to read Dune.
