I think it comes from a fear of being ostracized, shamed, harassed and targeted(even more so then regular women, as long as you’re a “cool girl”). Any woman online that identifies as a feminist immediately get’s targeted. Just look at how many women working in the gaming industry get ripped apart anytime the 4chan…
