This is not an article about charter school fakery. This article is about kids succeeding without the basic resources to do so, and without the support others take for granted. This isn’t about students being smart enough to manipulate the press; it was about students making a goal for themselves and meeting it

I think that even if your gut is wrong, you should ignore your family and friends because the most important thing you can do right now is make your way to confidence in your own choices and discernment. That can involve being wrong along the way, but when you eventually get there, it will be authentic self knowledge

He’s actually almost entirely guileless, which, in an ironic twist, I guess makes him seem like a total charlatan to some people.

Yes. And slightly out of date names are best, like Karen and Diane and Larry and Renee. Things get too cute when you go too far back (Mabel) or too current (Amber?). If the name is wearing culottes or a mustache, it’s usually good.

Yep. While the goalpost-moving narcissists always have delightfully clear consciences.

“Don’t worry about what people think of you. They almost never do.”

Sorry about the novel!

I would be so tempted to get weird and start dissecting the assertion that there’s nothing wrong with being married— “Hm, interesting. I guess I worry about some well-known stats like the fact that men tend to be happier, wealthier, and live longer when married, but women don’t tend to reap such benefits of support

She’s got a ton of great qualities and accomplishments, but you haven’t mentioned that she’s particularly bright. It might be less painful if you consider that she just didn’t understand the implications, that she got taken by the lies and manipulations of Fox etc., and fucked up not out of malice, but ignorance.

If he didn’t grow up in a family where people yell and get over it, he didn’t get that hardwiring that tells him it’s not a big deal and that people just express themselves passionately but it’s all fine and hey what’s for dinner, etc. It could very well be getting received by him as an emotional assault.

It’s amazing that all these motivations are equally plausible because he’s that much of a horror show. It could easily be because he’s a racist who hates Obama, because he’s stupid and thinks climate change is a hoax, because he’s thin-skinned about Macron and that everyone laughed at him, because of who paid him

It’s the only explanation for why people would preach a version of god that sets you up for failure and punishment. If you choose a god whose reason for everything is “to fuck with you,” you either want to do the fucking or you think you deserve to get fucked.

When the most powerful person in the world rallies his millions of rabid supporters to make someone’s life a living hell for a tasteless joke, that is bullying. She’s getting constant death threats and they are systematically working to destroy her life and career, harassing her employers, etc. What *is* bullying,

She’s a huge, longtime champion of liberal causes and does a metric shitton of charity and support work for our military people overseas and for LGBTQ issues. She’s one of the most politically engaged and outspoken people in the industry and has been devoted to equal rights and supporting the troops in tangible ways

“Explain that.”

No, it is not “extremely common in the US” to “get naked in front of your peers or get an F.”

Oh my, conscience-based objections! I had no idea it rose to the level of *strong feelings*. By all means, carry on hurting women and children; your fleeting discomfort is more important than our lives.

I have a couple friends who make five-year contracts to be together. Then they sit down and consciously decide whether they want to commit for another five. They always do, so far, and I believe they are on their fifth renewal.

My only thing about the physical stuff is that the accusation of “pulling her hair back” rings true because it is highly specific, and it is something Tyra has done or directed others to do many, many times.

I think he was hoping he could play it off as an “After you, dear” floating palm. He’s clearly had a lot of practice getting rebuffed—he also doesn’t skip a beat on the tarmac. She’s morphed into a disciplinarian as he’s morphed into a dangerous imbecile, and he knows better than to go for the principal’s ass.
