@Aesop's Foibles. YES.: But the fact that Barbie was a woman was precisely what I loved about her. I can't be the only one whose games always ended with Barbie sexing up Ken or one of her friends. As far as exploring your sexuality as a child, grown up dolls were far more appealing than dolls that looked just like me.

@sleepeatread: It also did a lovely job of tearing your heart out through your stomach and stabbing it before you very eyes. Which possibly means it has more in common with Jennifer's Body than previously thought.

@DinosaurDanceParty: I've been trying to find the link but I think I have some kind of recollection of MMc saying that she's pro-life but understands that not everyone feels that way. Or something. If I didn't dream it, then it came across as her saying she was pro-life but actually sounding remarkably pro-choice.

@allyzay: I agree with you that they're two completely different things, but if blonde, attractive women are considered to be the aspiration, then isn't it also important when one of them openly acknowledges that the aspiration is often a facade?

@diamonddnice: You are clearly unfamiliar with Kate Harding's BMI Project. I think one of the gaping holes in your argument is that you are only thinking in extremes. 'Overweight' is very different from 'morbidly obese' but it seems you assume they're the same thing.

@diamonddnice: And incidentally, I can personally attest to the fact that Europeans smoke truckloads of cigarettes. I'd think twice before holding them up as bastions of health just because, on average, they're thinner than the US of A.

@diamonddnice: I'm sorry to hear that about your relatives, but you're wading into dangerous territory here. Bad diet + excessive weight are obviously not pluses for a healthy lifestyle but nor are they necessarily harbingers of death. Overweight people are not incapable of leading active lifestyles and they are

@vwlphb: God, that is so true. I hate the expectation that we're supposed to indulge dudes who are essentially bothering us just because the alternative makes us uptight bitches who 'are too fat to fuck anyway!'.

Yeah. To me the most offensive thing about this show is not that fat women are made to look pathetic (which is bad enough) but that they all think the best they can hope for is a total cockbib like Luke.

@Rose.Selavy.Needs.A.Drink: Hang on. She/he actually thinks the book might have been rewritten for a 'mordern' audience?

@Sarah Dove: I read Wuthering Heights when I was in my early 20s so managed to avoid idolising the fatalistic romance that teen readers of the novel seem to get swept up in. Having said that, I think you're right - it's a pretty amazing novel because of all the gothic intensity.

@Oleander: Is it simplistic to suggest that what they're getting out of it is simply the adoration and support of the men involved - and considering that comes at the expense of victimised humans, they deserve no sympathy whatsoever?

@kaethe: Yes, who can say indeed - but again, that kind of argument just provides an out for women who reinforce the kind of behaviour that sees children abused at the hands of the men their protecting. To be honest, I don't give a flying f**k whether or not someone is looking for a 'replacement' for their own abused

@la.donna.pietra: Querying whether or not someone might be taking performance enhancing drugs is very different from querying whether or not they might be lying about their biological makeup - and that the 'obvious' answer is that Serenya is a man is reflective solely on how people view women's command of sports.

Twihards are not exactly known for their grasp of the finer points of english grammar. I recently wrote a piece for an Australian newspaper comparing True Blood to Twilight and received swags of hate mail. I include this indecipherable barb for your viewing pleasure:

@cantankasaurus rex: Does Jezebel seem like a place where people would not get the horror of the situation though? I get what you're saying, but I also think stuff like this reflects a much larger obsession in our culture with abuse voyeurism. How else can you explain the mass proliferation of child abuse memoirs on

This is honestly the most ridiculous thing I've heard all week. Not only is it extremely humiliating for Semenya to have to defend her biological gender, short of testing for steroids this shit would never happen to a male athlete because as we all know there isn't another form of life for men to aspire to. Can you
