No... Genesis really, really doesn't 'corroborate our modern understanding of the world's early days'. It's wrong pretty much from the get-go, what with the whole plants being created on the Earth's surface before the Moon, stars or the Sun bit and many others. Not to mention that all of humanity wasn't living close

Which would be interesting, seeing as, when interpreted literally, the Bible also claims that the universe was created between 6000-8000 years ago. Which is problematic, to say the least.

I dunno. From what I've read, it costs anywhere from $10 000 to $30 000 dollars for an individual full genome sequencing for humans; $2100 for sequencing gut bacterial genomes, though expensive, doesn't seem unreasonable. From the Nature link;
