The kicker here is the fact that she’s on a doughnut. If she’s willing to leave her car on that tire and go to a carwash, how much do you want to bet that her stalling issue is due to her negligence?

Dash cams....worth every penny

David Tracy today:

Because people see headlines that say “Driverless Uber car involved in crash” and fail to read the rest of the story. They conclude autonomous vehicles are unsafe.

Here’s the thing, even if it isn’t perfect people will still love it. The car doesn’t have to be Lexus/BMW/MB/etc level quality because where in the hell else are you going to find a midsize fully electric car with a good range that doesn’t look like bad Japanese anime?

Less testing is necessary if you look at it from a tech company point of view. The model 3 is a lite version of the S, all the R&D from the S translates to the 3. Teslas are mainly driven by software, this has been tested and proven by the S.

you know they already handle all of the issues you brought up right?

A Tesla will charge to 90% in 30 minutes.

I’ve been begging my wife to let me spend $1200 to lift her 2007 Impreza for years. But no. So I spent $47K on a built Wrangler JK that has maybe an inch more clearance than the lifted Impreza and will likely never go anywhere the Impreza couldn’t. Showed her!

What’s insane about this? It’s lifted. A Crosstrek is a lifted Impreza too.

Yeah there shouldn’t be a gap there unfortunately. Have you checked the ring gear and carrier for flatness? Maybe it could be trued-up by a machinist and backlash adjusted.

At the very least I would check the pattern with dye. Apply it to all teeth and you’ll know if it’s crooked by having a different pattern around

Well yes... something is definitely wrong with your head for you to continue working on this doomed project! :)

I’m starting to think that the worst thing that can with this project is success, since that means a 2000 mile road trip in it.

Not sure what you meant by “crooked” ring gear but you should slap a magnetic dial to your diff and mesure gear runout. Specs is max 0,003" of variation in runout. Certainly not visible by eye. If it’s more than that, it won’t make it very far.

I have used hockey pucks for mounts when in a pinch and they will probably work a little better and maybe absorb more vibrations than wood.

Get some of these guys and bolts that match the size, drill hockey puck with one size smaller bit, then heat up steel spacer and press it into the hockey puck then just get bolts

I stopped reading when you just “took out all the ring gear bolts” and “tightened them back up with loctite” without any mention of a torque wrench, followed by “looks crooked.”

Having lived in California, I have seen both good and bad examples of lane splitting. This was an extremely bad one, and the motorcyclist was substantially at fault here.

Tesla turned a profit in Q3 2017, and only didn’t turn a profit in Q4 because they reinvested literally all of their profit into the Gigafactory and Model 3 pre-production.

Bet you there’s more than one lawyer who has/had tried to convince the driver that they can sue the homeowners for placing the rocks there. After all if the rocks weren’t there he would have crashed into their house which would have likely been less injurious to him. They have created a hazard.
