I mentioned this in a facebook post the other night when this cropped up.
This could have ended with at least one of these guys in a bag.

Why are we still getting hung up on “Beta”? Christ, maybe Elon dug himself a hole with the “autopilot” and “beta” terminology but they don’t actually mean what everyone here seems to think they mean. It’s a fully sussed out road ready stage two cruise control with lane keeping system with a few extra bells and…
Tesla has had over 100 million miles of user feedback using autopilot, of the most useful form—detailed telemetric reports of performance. What they don’t want is someone violating the terms of agreement and then trying to get a free replacement car after a wreck by extorting the company, which is likely the case here.
I find it funny that people always call engines in cars motors and now there is car powered by a motor and the guy says engine....
*Sigh... No they are not marketing it as that and Autopilot is precisely the correct term for this sort of thing. If they were marketing it as autonomous then I’d call BS. Mercedes is literally marketing their stage 2 cruise control as autonomous and I’ve seen only one article about that. This Tesla thing is overblown.
It was a good day for an apocalypse.
I hope by ‘trucks’ he means autonomous shipping container chassis. IF you want to really change the world, make a shipping container chassis with built-in electric power train and guidance.
Well, 2030 sounds a lot better than the alternative - 2100? 2200?
Last week, we learned of the tragic death of Joshua Brown, who died in a crash involving a truck crossing a divided…
130 million miles is not exactly chump change. Yes, its a drop in the bucket compared to the total mileage driven in the US, but the OP’s premise is it is completely untrustworthy because it can’t stop 100% of accidents. That is untrue if you compare it to human drivers. At best you can say its too early to tell. But…
Share the tweets! I haven’t seen or heard anything suggesting that I can put the car in autopilot and stop watching the road.
Again, do present an example of these purposeful misconceptions. Because they all must have alluded me.
I don’t even see why they’d do that. Why not just give me a panoramic view where the rear view is. Why make the driver look a bunch of places when they don’t have to?
But then how the police blind you with their spotlight when they pull you over. Getting rid of mirrors is a safety hazard for LEOs!
Lets have a thousand dollars worth of cameras and wiring and computer modules instead of a .50 cent piece of glass. Brilliant.
Wow, with all the stuff that went wrong there in that short a time period, I wouldn’t buy a new Rav4 either, if all that went wrong in 15k from new, not sure I’d wanna have it for the next 85k.
Shouldn’t we be looking at the median price of new cars too, as opposed to average, if we’re looking at median salaries?
Reckless - yet it drove 130 million miles without incident...it’s still the safest thing on the road. Based on this, humandrivers should’ve been banned ages ago.
Do ICE car publish numbers that show drivetrain loss in Norway?
