The fact that they’re making a crossover shouldn’t be too surprising. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t really hoping they’d go for a wagon-ish hatchback instead. Something like the Mazda 3 or Subaru Impreza hatchback would be great.

99% of the time, there is very little joy in driving. Just lots of waiting and frustration. I welcome our new auto-driving overlords with open arms. When I want to *actually* drive and enjoy it, I’ll go to the track. The days of puttering along a deserted back road are coming to a close, especially with the vast…
My girlfriend owns this exact car (same color, even), and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Not enough power to get out of its own way, the CVT is annoying, and the throttle is like an on/off switch. You’d be better off in just about any competing car.
I think the problem with the new model is the roundness of the hood. It takes away a lot of the aggressive look that the previous generation had. I don’t think it looks *bad*, but if the hood was more flat and less rounded at the front, it would look much, much better.
You shut your whore mouth!
“the damn thing managed to stay surprisingly flat in the corners.”
For that particular speedo, there’s not much choice. Most speedometers of the era did 5-15-25-35, etc. You had to mark 55 mph by federal law, and there just isn’t a lot of room there to label by 5s or even 10s. You can’t label every 20, because then you’d only have 15, 35, 55.
We have the same thing in the U.S., it’s just rarely done. Most people refer to them as “fix-it tickets”.
“Instead, they pull up along side me, all pissed off, angry, ready to fight”
*In the past* robots have rarely replaced skilled jobs, because the technology simply wasn’t there. We are to the point now that robots most certainly CAN replace many skilled jobs (“skilled” being a relative term). The only thing stopping it is the expense. The cost is going down and the performance is going up at a…
I’ve owned Automatic for about 6 or 8 months now and, frankly, I find it to be quite crap. It fails to link with my phone (iPhone 6) half the time, so I’m constantly having to close and re-open the program. They’ve gone and added all this new functionality, but still haven’t added simple things that people have been…
I’ve always liked the Model S, but thought those stupid door handles were the worst design decision ever. Virtually everything else about the car is lower maintenance, fewer moving parts, less stuff to go wrong. But these door handles are extra complex for no good reason. There’s no way they decrease drag over other,…
“The front left quarter panel”
“You would be hard pressed to find an operation in a manufacturing facility today which is performed in exactly the same fashion for more than a few weeks or months at a time. “
I’m not in disagreement that many people could do better, given the right circumstances and a decent education. But you also cannot deny that there is a significant portion of the population that simply does not have the capacity to perform highly skilled work - people who can get by just fine washing dishes or…
So, people that are working lower paying, “less respectable” jobs are just doing it for the lulz, since they could so easily move into higher paying, more skilled positions?
You think all of the people driving in rain and snow have skill? Have you SEEN the drivers on the roads these days? Skill is not a word I would use to describe the average driver.
There are two flaws in your thinking:
No, it’s not the same at all. Tractors, the cotton gin, production line robots, etc. were about replacing human muscle power with robots. We are talking about replacing human brain power - the ability to observe surroundings, make decisions, navigate complex situations, etc. This is not monotonous work like digging a…
