Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series needs to be made into a syfy series STAT. each season could cover a different couple (which would give us, like, 15 seasons), but there's an over arching plot line to keep them all united. Also Nix. I would watch just for her hysterical insights.

My college voice teacher is the main tenor singer on that CD!

oh! oh! music major/opera nerd here! The first operas were written to go along with feasts like weddings and coronations, so yeah, the audience was pretty much sloshed and generally not paying much attention. The tradition continued even when operas got more formalized. The arias in operas by earlier composers like

I need to be friends with you. The last essay I wrote in college was about how opera offered the audience (who, during the earlier operas, would be drinking, eating, AND gambling while watching the opera) a way to imagine making terrible life decisions. I called it "opera logic" and used the word "escapism" a lot. And

My mom once made the mistake of naming everyone in her party after a member of our family. She couldn't keep going when I died of cholera and my sister drowned while fording the river.

I had scarlet fever in the late 90s! I sort of skipped the strep part and went straight to the fever. Antibiotics are blessing, though, because I only missed one day of school... If it had gone any longer I probably would have worried about going blind like Mary in Little House on the Prairie. My one point of pride is

Oh, no, they don't like the idea of Utopia, because according to Thomas More, Utopia is a place where there is no private property and that's Communism. Or Socialism. Or something something the Soviet Union and North Korea. And Obummer. So it's more like

ok, but what is that picture from? NEED TO KNOW

like picklesandbeets said, private schools can actually be cheaper because they have endowments that allow for more generous need-based scholarships (not merit or athletic scholarships). To contrast, most state schools advertise lower tuitions (which is true), but they don't mention that you either pay out of pocket

You just KNOW that North West will start a fashion line of her own and it will, in fact, be called "North" by North West. So your prediction totally counts.

I already saw it! My friend and I went to an early viewing, and it was amazing! "Agony" is the best thing ever. The Steps on the Palace scene is really well done, I thought. And (hate me if you dare) I thought Meryl's singing was good. It wasn't Bernadette Peters-strong (neither was Emily Blunt's or Chris Pine's), but

Glad to see Ireland's abortion policy saved the baby-fetus, at least.

it's his voice. his is an eargasm every time. IMHO, of course.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to post the lecture online? Or suggest readings? It sounds fascinating, and very valuable when defending my opinions.

"Thus, there are two possible ways for Rick Santorum's statement (re: college=Jesus haters) to match up with his own college degree. Possibility One: he went to college, and narrowly escaped being indoctrinated by the Jesus Haters he found there. Possibility Two: he is only pretending to be a terrible, small-minded

my mom's water broke at 7am, contractions really started at 8am, and I was born at 9am. I am PRAYING for karma to work in my favor...

Well, my brother (hopefully) getting ready to propose to his girlfriend. He and I talk about these things, and he said that he was trying to find the right time to talk to Girlfriend's parents, as well as our parents. I took it as a "Just so you know, I'm doing this, and I hope you'll be happy about it" message,

"Those who falsely report accuse often get away with it."

i'd really like to point out to all the people gunning for teachers and children to start packing heat (pun intended... too soon?), that guns cannot magically stop bullets that have ALREADY BEEN FIRED. The principal and school psychologist at Sandy Hook walked into the hallway and were promptly killed. Having a gun
