As always, well done. One of the things that will continue to confound me about this season and finale is that, when it came down to it nothing that Jimmy did was necessary. That band of idiots could have driven their explosive-laden van up to NASA at any time, so why go through the whole rigmarole with Jimmy,…
Loved this season. Gimme 10 more. I do hope that next season is the end of an “arc” and we can have a harder reset and then expand out even more (moons of Saturn/Jupiter, maybe).
Turning 60 this year. Tom Cruise in July, Christopher Meloni (L&O) in April, Lance Reddick (the concierge in John Wick). George Clooney is 61. Some guys just age well.
Thanks for providing great review instead of just the AV Club’s episode play-by-play.
The scene of Ed walking away from the MSAM crash site appears to have been inspired by the scene of Chuck Yeager walking away from his crashed NF-104 in “The Right Stuff.” It’s almost a shot-for-shot duplicate.
They wanted to do something like militia/white nationalists, but didn’t want to get involved with saying it was militia. Which is sort of chickenshit in the same way that having the FAMverse Democrats of 1994 act exactly like the real-world Republicans is.
because they covered up what really happened on the moon in season 2
That ending was like Return of the King in its endlessness. And it ran through quite a few highs and lows, as well. Like “oh no, bomb and Karen’s dead but oh hey, Molly’s saving people and hope and stuff and, oh my, Margo’s been blown away, but Ed’s alive and walking towards us and, oh yeah, hey, your wife’s dead, but…
“Larry still perjured himself. The tapes are still evidence.”
He could still be prosecuted and he’d likely resign.
Who is going to sue them? The Soviets? The families of the dead Helios employees?
And helium-3 and nuclear fusion producing a recession? How the hell does free, unlimited energy produce a recession?
Thank you for the actual review, opposed to the summary above.
I agree that the Russians are being pragmatic. I was calling it ominous in reference to the staging, the tight conspiratorial close-ups, and the swelling music, intended to indicate something’s amiss.
To quote the ob/gyn who delivered my son, no birth control method is 1oo%, not even hormonal methods like Norplant. One of my students somehow got pregnant about six months after the insertion.
Kelly’s a smart person but I can tell you sometimes smart people do dumb things, like not use a condom as back-up birth…
“ the ominous conversation between the Russians”
If Jimmy and his anti-NASA buddies disbelieve the news as regards the Soviet invasion of Jamestown and the Mars landslide, what exactly do they think is going on?
It sounds like the plan is for it to be the change that sets other changes in motion, branching off an eventually very different timeline where presumably we get a lot further in space exploration than we have in the real world.
Read an article about this show in Wired that said Moore has SEVEN seasons fully mapped out.
