@MacTodd: Wow, this is just getting repetitive. Are you sticking your fingers in your ear and going "NANANANANA" or something?

@MacTodd: You neglected the cost of a Mac in that since that's the sole development platform allowed. So the cost from start to finish is well over $1,000.

@MacTodd: No, you don't get it. Some people aren't looking to earn money. Some are just looking to distribute their app as free and open source, and in a way they're punished for this because it means they have to eat the $99 fee.

@saifrc: I'd say a platform that only has one method of distribution (which requires you fork over $99), does not allow background applications, and requires a certain type of computer (a Mac) to even do the development is hardly a tinkerer's dream...

@MacTodd: Tinker without limits? Really? No background apps severely restricts the kinds of apps you can make (so nothing like Locale like on Android), and if you make something cool, you can't even share it with your friends without Apple's approval, and a $99 fee, even if you want to make a free open-source app.

@Decad3nce: My question is why can't you have both? WebOS is almost as open as Android, has Palm's encouragement for homebrew, and still has a simple and elegant UI that just works...
