The themes are there in La La Land if you want to see them and grab on to them. And if they don’t resonate, you’ve still got the spectacular musical numbers. I just don’t get the need people have for everything to say something important.

You’ve described like every classical musical ever made. There isn’t a single Ginger Rogers/Fred Astaire movie that has a substantial story, not one. Which isn’t to say Gosling or Stone are the Ginger and Fred of the ‘10s, but I really don’t remember anyone calling it *important*, but there was a lot of buzz around it…
Why do movies have to “say” something? Isn’t it enough to be a well constructed, entertaining way to spend 2 hours and then you can dispose of it afterwards?
Applegate was always terrific on this show, but I guess I’m in the minority on this - Linda Cardellini’s performance is one of the most grating I’ve ever seen.
I don’t think its fair to say she didn’t grow. Her performance in mother! was outstanding, something I don’t think she had in her after Winter’s Bone, and she was easily the best part of Don’t Look Up, I think her comedy chops have improved.
It’s absolutely also a CW thing because they are no longer in the WBDiscovery portfolio and don’t want to pay for the show. WBD could obviously save it and air it on Max if they wanted, but nothing could have stopped CW from ordering more episodes if they were willing to pay for the show.
The attacks were absolutely coordinated. Charles is upset the show is going to revive Tampongate (look it up if you didn’t hear about it) and the Firm is trying to turn people against the show before the episode is released.
The first time I remember taking notice of her was when she did My Name is Earl, playing a young knife thrower who hates knife throwing, I kind of wish that was asked about.
Musk loves anti trans bigots like Chaya Raichik, so expect the algorithm to be amplifying even more bigotry.
I’d be stunned if that happened when Raimi, Campbell and Tapert still have some measure of control over the franchise. The three already did a remake of Evil Dead and notably did not attempt to recast Ash.
Bruce Campbell has said he’ll never play Ash again in a tv show or a movie. Others have said such things before, but he’s 64. A Brisco County Jr revival has better odds than Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash.
You’re insane if you think he has that kind of power.
She actually didn’t say she could read, she said she knew her lines. She’s a maniac for even bringing it up in an NYT piece, but doubly so for wording it so vaguely that the rumors have even more credence now.
If Bari Weiss truly gave a shit about fighting anti-semitism, she wouldn’t spend so much time whining about woke culture while elevating the “Intellectual Dark Web”. She’s a fucking idiot and a con artist. When she was in college, she led her own cancel culture movement.
It’s not a typo, it’s written that way in the Variety excerpt. It’s what he called her.
“it’s a grim little reminder that companies love fan projects and engagement…for exactly as long as they don’t give the impression that they’re fucking with their money.”
There is no chance her quote is that high, especially with notoriously cheap Marvel. I just can’t believe that number.
Whose career did Weird Al end like that? His parodies are popular, but never so popular that it totally changed the public opinion about someone.
You could, for sure. You could also play with something in the public domain, which she did.
I know it sounds weird to say about a movie that makes a bajillion dollars, but the week to week hold wasn’t as good as expected and the response has been more tepid than a lot of their major releases. I could be way off of course, but it doesn’t seem like they really capitalized off the momentum Spider-Man NWH gave…
