Oh PLEASE change the headline- they don't bite, they sting!!!
Are you... actually studying entomology? In undergrad? Grad? Or are you just a bug nerd like me?
Actual photo of the scorpion in question before it got squished.
scorplings make them sound adorable
Bit?
As a student of entomology, I can assure you that it doesn't get any worse than being bitten by a poisonous scorpion.

It makes me so sad that I can barely scrape together enough money to visit my in laws in Florida once a year, but assholes like this get to travel the world.

I love how the reporter tried to field that one sensitively. It's not even considered a real derm disease in medical circles, but rather a delusional parasitosis that people have nicknamed and then spread around on the internet. It's a mental disorder as best can be told, associated with skin problems from picking and…

The New York Times also published an article about gender bias by students towards teachers (just so you know it goes both ways):
If I could BUY some bedbugs to mail to my ex for Valentine's Day, I would be all over that!
Now that's how you apologize for being an idiot.
That's fucking terrible she purposefully put the box closer to you because you were clearly uncomfortable (for lack of a better term). What the fuck is wrong with humans? Jesus.
I kinda resent this, from an entomologistic perspective. Hissing roaches are avid survivors and not home-invading pests like their flying and German cousins. Qualities that more respectable than not.
I'm flummoxed. As scorpions and hissing cockroaches are demonstrably far sweeter and more compassionate than my ex ever was on his best day, I feel somehow unkind participating in any gesture that would link them to him.
Oh! I actually did something VERY similar for my (still) fiancee a few years back. The Bronx Zoo let you donate a certain amount (I think $25?) and you could 'adopt' a cockroach and got a little thank you certificate and an edible (chocolate) cockroach. I did this for Valentine's Day and named the cockroach after my…
