You are correct in that it IS a cultural thing, but media is a product of the culture it’s made in, so I don’t think that’s a contradiction. How do kids in a tribe know about the warriors that came before them? Campfire stories,family traditions, books, all that is just another form of media.

Well, there’s a point to be made about why a kid would, out of all the thinks you can build with a building set, choose to build a gun, or a sword for that matter.

How do developers look at the switch and go “yes, THIS is the console for my raunchy pretty boys molesting each other game”?

I have a small collection of mostly SNES games I’m proud of, it’s basically the games I used to play on emulators because I had no other way of getting them (not available in my country, and crazy expensive if available).

At this point it would be so much easier if they just made them random number codes, and let you put whatever display name you wanted.

I think players are much more likely to play a 110 yen game than they are a 108, fiddling with 1 yen coins is the worst, 10 yen, not so much.

Now that you bring up MHGU, how’s online play in it? Can you play with randos over the internet? Or is it ad-hoc, lan only?

To be honest, I think the switch is a little overblown, sure the idea is neat, and the execution is competent.

I wish they had included some sort of practice mode, I feel like a bumbling idiot getting my ass handed to me over and over, and having to wait a good few minutes between matches just to try if the moves I remember are still there is a bit frustrating.
