220 miles with an 83 kWh battery is terrible. You need to be close to 4 miles per kWh. Efficiency is important when range is limited.

I think the last 2 cruise ship that were built with gearboxes and clutches for propulsion are Costa Classica and Romantica built in early ‘90s and that was a what dafuq even back then. Everything else is diesel electric propulsion. As far as I know and I work in the cruise industry.
